Daily Old Testament and New Testament Readings
Introduction
Reading through the entire Bible can feel overwhelming, especially when we are unsure where to begin or how much to read each day. The One Year Bible Reading Plan provides a simple and steady way to move through Scripture from Genesis to Revelation.
Each day includes a reading from the Old Testament and a reading from the New Testament. Over the course of the year, you will encounter the unfolding story of redemption, God’s faithfulness to His people, the life and ministry of Jesus Christ, and the hope we have through Him.
The purpose of this plan is not simply to finish the Bible, but to grow in your knowledge of God through His Word. As you read, ask the Lord to help you see His character, understand His truth, and respond to Him with faith and obedience.
How to Use This Plan
Set aside a regular time each day for reading. You may prefer the quiet of the morning, a few minutes during the afternoon, or time in the evening. Choose a time when you can read without feeling hurried.
Begin with prayer, asking the Lord to give you understanding and help you receive what He wants to teach you. Read both the Old Testament and New Testament passages listed for the day. You may read them together or divide them between two different times of the day.
Keep a notebook or journal nearby if you would like to record a verse, a question, or something you learn about God. You do not need to write extensive notes. Even one truth carried with you throughout the day can deepen your time in Scripture.
You may begin on January 1, or you may treat the first reading as Day 1 whenever you decide to start. The important thing is not the date on the calendar, but the decision to spend consistent time in God’s Word.
An Encouraging Reminder
There may be days when you fall behind. Life becomes busy, unexpected circumstances arise, and some passages may require more time than others. Missing a reading does not mean you have failed.
You may continue with the next day, return to the reading you missed, or adjust the plan to fit your season of life. The purpose is not to rush through Scripture or complete an assignment. The purpose is to know God more deeply through His Word.
Some days the reading may feel especially meaningful. Other days you may not immediately understand how the passage applies to your life. Keep reading. God often uses His Word quietly and faithfully, shaping our hearts over time.
Begin where you are, move forward one day at a time, and trust the Lord to meet you as you open His Word.
